COMBINE 2017

Dates: 9-13 October 2017
Location: Milan, ITALY

The COMBINE 2017 Meeting will take place in Milan, Italy, from October 9th to October 13th at the Università degli Studi di Milano Bicocca.

The "Computational Modeling in Biology" Network (COMBINE) is an initiative to coordinate the development of the various community standards and formats in systems biology and related fields. COMBINE 2017 will be a workshop-style event with oral presentations, posters, and breakout sessions. The five meeting days will include talks about the COMBINE standards and associated or related standardization efforts, as well as presentations of tools using these standards. Oral presentations will be selected from the submitted abstracts. In addition, poster sessions will allow people to inform each other about their software and other projects in a setting that fosters interaction and in-depth discussion.

Travel

Here are some instructions on how to reach the COMBINE 2017 venue from major airports and railways.

From Milano Malpensa Airport

Most of you will be landing in Milano-Malpensa International Airport (MXP). Our suggestion is to take the (express) train to either Milano Centrale, Milano Porta Garibaldi or Milano Cadorna railway stations (located downtown); the train station is conveniently located inside the airport, close to the arrivals hall. Once you are in one of the Milan main stations, you can either get a cab, or use the public transit to reach conference venue (subway or bus).

From Other Airports or Major Railway Stations

You may also arrive at other airports or major railway stations. The other airports (Linate, Orio al Serio) are usually connected to the city by bus shuttles. Major arrival points of such shuttles services are the major railway stations Milano Porta Garibaldi and Milano Centrale.

From the Centrale Station to the COMBINE Venue

  • Bus: walk to the Bus 87 stop, in proximity of Centrale Railway Station / Subway Station. Take bus 87, direction: Sesto Marelli M1. Your stop is: Bicocca.
  • Metro: take the Yellow line to Zara and then the Violet line to Bicocca. Then you have to walk 5 minutes to the U6 building.

From the Garibaldi Station to the COMBINE Venue

  • Metro: take the Violet line to Bicocca. Then you have to walk 5 minutes to the U6 building.

Social Dinner

The social dinner will be held Thursday October 12th evening at the Hangar Bicocca Iuta Bistrot.

Renting a car?!

We don't recommend renting a car, because of heavy traffic in the city and afferent highways. Driving and parking in Milan can be quite frustrating.

Subway and Bus System

All public transit, except for the railways, is operated by ATM. Streetcars and buses are available as well. For more information, visit the ATM-Milano site or ask us.

The subway system (Metropolitana or Metro or MM) is the most efficient public transit system; it operates from 6.30 AM till 12.15 AM approximately. A regular (urban) fare will cost you 1.5 Euro. Automatic machines are available in all subway stations.

There are three major lines, all operated by ATM (Azienda Trasporti Milano):

  • MM1, Rossa (red)
  • MM2, Verde (green)
  • MM3, Gialla (yellow)
  • MM5, Lilla (violet)

There is also an underground railway line, and surface railway lines (both are colored in blue). You won't have to use them to move around in the city, they are mostly used by suburban commuters.

A link to the subway system (and some inter-regional trains) can be found here.
